Summary of Tonight’s Class
Building on last night’s overview, tonight’s session focused on deepening the students’ understanding of circuit analysis and component calculations:
- Reinforcing Series and Parallel Resistance Calculations
We revisited the basics of series and parallel DC resistance calculations, ensuring everyone was comfortable with the fundamental principles. - Challenging Circuit Configuration
To test understanding, I presented a delta (Δ) resistance configuration and challenged the students to identify series and parallel combinations. This exercise highlighted the limitations of traditional approaches for solving such circuits. - Delta-to-Wye Transformation
I introduced the formula to convert from a delta (Δ) configuration to a wye (Y) configuration. The students immediately recognized how this transformation simplified the circuit, making it straightforward to analyze and solve. - Simplification Techniques
Using the transformed circuit, I demonstrated how specific simplification steps can make complex problems easier to solve. This emphasized the importance of strategy in circuit analysis. - Inductance and Capacitance in Series and Parallel
To round out the session, I introduced the formulas for calculating inductance and capacitance in series and parallel configurations. This provided students with tools to approach AC circuits with reactive components, building on the groundwork laid in prior discussions.
Tonight’s class was an engaging mix of theory, practical problem-solving, and strategic techniques, setting the stage for even more complex circuit analysis in future sessions.
Congratulations to Vincent for solving the circuit fully first! Good job from Dillon for coming in as close second!!!
